Facts about Broome County

Broome County is in a section of New York called the Southern Tier.  As of 2017, the population of Broome County is 200,600.  Broome County is comprised of sixteen townships,seven villages and one city. Beautiful county parks, natural preserves and local parks are relaxing and enjoyable places to spend time with your family and friends.

A professional ice hockey team, the Binghamton Devils, plays their games at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.  Broome county is also home to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, an American minor league baseball team based in Binghamton, New York. The team, which plays in the Eastern League, is the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets major-league club. The Rumble Ponies play in NYSEG Stadium, located in Binghamton.

The annual Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally brings over 30,000 visitors to Otsiningo Park each year.

Broome County provides rich and diverse educational opportunities. Nine public school districts are located in Broome County.  Over 15,000 students are enrolled at Binghamton University, a premier public university. SUNY Broome is among the top community colleges in the state.

The Binghamton Metropolitan Area, which includes Broome County and its neighboring Tioga County, offers a wide variety of employment options. Major employers include Lockheed Martin, United Health Services, IBM, BAE Systems, L-3/Link and Universal Instruments.
